๐Ÿงฎ VA Rating Calculator

Add your conditions and see how the VA combines them โ€” no math knowledge needed.

Did you know? The VA doesn't just add your ratings together. A 50% rating + 30% rating = 65% combined (rounded to 70%), not 80%. Each condition takes a percentage of your remaining health โ€” add your conditions below to see how it works.

Why doesn't it just add up?

The VA uses a "whole person" method. Once a condition claims 50%, only 50% remains. Your next condition takes a % of that 50% โ€” not of 100%.

What does "both sides" do?

If a condition affects paired body parts (both knees, both wrists), the VA adds a small bonus to that combined rating before mixing it with your other conditions.

Can I reach 100%?

Yes โ€” but the math makes it very hard. Even with many ratings you may stay in the 90s. TDIU is a separate benefit that pays at the 100% rate if you can't work.

Educational tool only. Your actual VA rating is determined by VA raters using your medical records and rating decision. Consult a VA-accredited VSO or attorney for help with your specific claim.
